Boosting Lips

Boosting Lips
Reshaping lip contours, increasing lip volume, supporting lip corners and rehydrating lips can be achieved through several non-surgical and/or surgical procedures which entail the use of:

- fillers (hyaluronic acid and/or collagen). Injected along the border of the lips and inside the body of the lips with a fine needle. No anesthetic required. Takes a few minutes and any swelling subsides within 24 – 48 hours.

- solid implants (threads). Non-absorbable material inserted into the lips under local anesthetic in procedure lasting around 30 – 60 minutes. Residual swelling for 24 – 48 hours. Most common products used are ‘Gore-Tex’, ‘Advanta’, ‘Softform’ and ‘Ultrasoft’.

- tissue grafts (autologous-lipofilling- and non-autologous tissues). Transfer of cells taken from one part of the body and implanted in the lips to increase volume and contour permanently. Usually performed under local anesthetic and in out-patient care. Some swelling for 24 – 48 hours after the procedure.

- local flaps: incisions are made in the internal part of the mouth in order to transfer a flap of local tissue to the external part of the lips. Advantage: uses local tissue and avoids problem of rejection or absorbtion issues with implants. Swelling likely to persist for a week after the operation. The result achieved by his approach is permanent and very natural.

The choice of the kind of procedure and of the material to be used depends upon the cosmetic result that one wants to achieve and the decision is made in close consultation with your specialist.
