Breast Uplift (mastopexy)

Breast Uplift

What is it?

Mastopexy or breast uplift surgery as it is more commonly known is an extremely popular operation – the procedure enables the lifting and contouring of sagging breasts and the modification of the shape and size of the areola. Women whose breasts have lost their original shape and volume due to pregnancy, breast feeding, age or just gravity find this to be a highly effective procedure.

Breast uplift surgery can be performed in conjunction with enlargement or reduction surgery.

How is it done?

The operation under general anesthetic involves the removal of excess skin and depending on the extent of the mastopexy to be performed, incisions may only be made around the areola or may extend vertically down to the sub-mammary sulcus and along the lower fold of the breast. The operation usually takes from 1.5 - 3 hours.

Recovery

Patients will require a one to two night hospital stay and will need 48 hours complete bed rest after which they can resume normal life albeit at a slower pace to begin with. We recommend that patients give themselves at least 7 to 10 days before returning to work (unless it is excessively tiring) and 3 weeks before starting sporting activities again.
