Buttocks

Q. I’ve read in a newspaper that it is possible to lift the buttocks by inserting implants. I would like to know if this kind of cosmetic surgery actually exists and if the result is long-lasting?

A. Yes it is possible. The buttocks can be lifted and increased in volume through an operation which consists of implanting silicone gel prosthesis (similar to those used in additive mastoplasty (breast augmentation)) or in transferring adipose tissue (fat) taken from another part of your body. Most manufacturers guarantee the implants for about ten years, after which they recommend that they are replaced in order to prevent any deformation or deflation of the implants due to their use.

Q. Is it true that buttock implants tend to move with the passing of time?

A. The implants used in buttock reshaping may sometimes suffer from a complication called “dislocation” or displacement, which occurs when the implant moves from the pouch in which it was placed or rotates, changing its position. This complication is very rare in breast augmentation, but it is more likely to occur in buttock reshaping, because this part of the body is subject to a different kind of strain.
