Cellulite
Q. What is cellulite?
A. The term “cellulite” is commonly used to indicate a condition characterised by “orange peel” skin which, sometimes, presents subcutaneous nodular growths often painful to the touch. Cellulite is not a localized fatty deposit but a type of degeneration of skin tissue, often combined with the problem of water retention.
Q. Can liposuction eliminate cellulite?
A Liposuction and liposculpture allow the body to be sculpted and contoured by removing unwanted fatty deposits but it is not effective in eliminating or improving cellulite.
Instead, there are alternative medical treatments available to tackle the problem of cellulite such as mesotherapy, electrolipolysis, ionophoresis, which, if performed regularly and in association with a balanced diet, can improve the appearance of skin affected by cellulite although it won’t remove it completely!
In addition, there are several types of mechanical treatments, such as lymphatic drainage massage and the new LPG-Endermologie treatment, which can be very useful for improving cellulite and speeding up recovery from liposuction surgery.
