Cheek and Chin Contouring Surgery (mentoplasty and malaroplasty)
What is it?
Cheek and chin contouring surgery is becoming increasingly popular due its effectiveness and excellent results. Mentoplasty enables the modification of the chin in terms of size and form which can improve the face and overall appearance of a patient. Using solid silicone, Goretex or Medpor implants, the size of the chin can be increased. A chin that is too large or wide can be reduced.
The cheekbones can be enlarged or contoured, again using solid silicone, Goretex or Medpor implants, the injection of absorbable or permanent fillers or through lipofilling.
Mentoplasty and malaroplasty can be performed as isolated procedures but are often performed alongside other surgical techniques such as rhinoplasty, eyebag removal and / or a facelift.
How is it done?
Mentoplasty and malaroplasty are usually performed under local anesthestic with sedation although sometimes under general anesthetic which will then require a one to two day hospital stay. The operation lasts for around one hour.
Tiny incisions are made inside the oral cavity when carrying out both procedures which are completely hidden.
Recovery
Following either operation, a small dressing will be applied with gauzes and plasters. Ice will be applied to the treated area for 12 hours after the operation.
You will need 48 hours complete bed rest with your head slightly raised after which you can resume normal life albeit at a slower pace to begin with. We recommend that patients give themselves at least 7 – 10 before returning to work (unless it is excessively tiring) and 3 weeks before starting sporting activities again.
