Rejuvenating Hands

Hands are often the spy of ones age. The skin of the hands is continuously exposed to the sun and to environmental insults, and rarely people protect their hands.

With age solar lentigo and precancerous lesions appear on the dorsa of the hands, the skin tends to become thin and dry and there is an evident loss of subcutaneous tissue.

The first step consists of curing the precancerous lesion, if present, with specific medications and if necessary photodynamic therapy. Solar lentigo can be effectively treated with medium chemical peels or Q-switched lasers in 1 to 3 sessions.

The texture of the skin can be improved through chemical peels. Hyaluronic acid can be injected into the dermis to restore turgidity of the skin, and if there is a severe loss of subcutaneous tissue a fat transfer may be very effective.
